Opinion on Atheism
Atheism is just a fad, it's the latest thing people are catching on to either for attention, for a sense of "belonging" to a certain group, or just for the sake of being controversial. Why are people making such a fuss about it, (especially on the blogosphere)? There are people who worship all sorts of things and those who worship nothing at all, big deal. This fad will die down as fast as it started.

There have been atheists throughout history, so I'm not sure that atheism qualifies as a fad.

Everyone is born an atheist until they are indoctrinated. The oldest known altar was built to worship a python, before the earliest hominid worshiped the sun. Eventually man created many different Gods, deities, etc. Basically, there have been atheists as long as there have been theists. Even if atheism has to "go back in the closet", there still won't be any gods. "If you believe in things that you don't understand, you'll suffer, superstition aint the way..."
You seem like you want to start another religious war. Atheists are everywhere, and it will take several acts of [Gg]od before they go away.
Each to his own. Everyone has the right to choose what is best for themselves. Respect for our fellows and their beliefs and hobbies are the key for humanity.
I got a lot of flak for not drinking alcohol and drinking an odd bev called puerh cha (really, really old old anciemt grandad type of drink) but it makes me happy and I'm not harming anyone bc of it - SO DRINK ON!
Calling it a fad makes no sense. A fad is something that becomes popular or fashionable for a while, and then becomes not.
So, in order for atheism to be a fad for someone, they would by definition need to have been religious beforehand. Then the "fad" comes a long, and this person decides to join the fad and thus renounces his belief in God -- not likely!
On the other hand, for those people who aren't religious to begin with, it's not a fad because by the definition of atheism, they are already atheists.
Atheism may be a fad, but religion is a widespread mental illness that makes grown humans believe fairy tales are true.

You could have just as easily stated that homosexuality is a fad.
It's not.
As a result of the morally and culturally evolving world that we live in, people are expressing their views more than they did in the past, in which this time, they would be stoned to deat. :)
